The Snake, Restoule Prov. Park

back / назад

The Snake is a classic of central Ontario. What does that exactly mean? Good ice, decent length, interesting climbing... all add up to it being worth the drive up there! The climb is a more than a half rope length tall (although you can easily link the line in one rope length, you can also belay on the half-way ledge). A two rope rap from the large trees at the top will get you back down to the lake.

Access to the climb is best gained by driving into the park and heading for Stormy Lake (a.k.a. Patterson Lake). At the parking lot ski towards the lake. Follow the right shoreline for about 1 km, at which point the crag will come into view. The Snake is hiding around the corner on the left side of the crag. Other routes are located to the left and right of the main attraction.

Season: It's most popular in the spring, when everything else closer to home has started to melt out, but it's climbable throughout the season (as long as the lake is frozen).

Gear: A std ice rack will usually suffice (all screw lengths are useful). Two ropes useful, but not necessary.
